Freedom to Participate in the Political Process The law provided citizens with the ability to choose their government in free and fair periodic elections held by secret ballot and based on universal and equal suffrage. Elections and Political Participation Abuses or Irregularities in Recent Elections: National elections were widely reported to be fair and free of abuses and irregularities. On June 25, the country held parliamentary elections. Section 4. Corruption in Government The law provided criminal penalties for officials convicted of corruption, and the government generally implemented the law effectively. There were some reports of government corruption.
