EUAA: Greece has received operational support by the EASO/EUAA since 2011. The 2022-2024 operational plan was amended three times, with the latest amendment in April 2024 to take into account changes in the organisational structures of Greece authorities and the operational context, notably in light of ‘’the increased arrivals and persisting pressure on the national asylum and reception system since after the second quarter of 2023”.22 At the request of the Greek authorities, in December 2024, the EUAA and Greece agreed on an operational plan for 2025 with continued support with regard to asylum procedures, reception and temporary protection.23 The plan was amended following a request by the Greek authorities to prolong support until 31 December 2026.24 In 2025, the EUAA deployed 587 experts in Greece,25 most of which were temporary agency workers (576). The majority of these experts were caseworkers (69), registration information provision flow management administrative assistants (68), reception assistants – site management (67), reception assistants – case management (59), registration assistants (46) and a series of other programme and support staff (e.g., field support officers, Dublin assistants, ICT assistants, quality officers – interim support, etc.).26 As of 15 December 2025, there were a total of 513 EUAA experts present in Greece, 56 of which were registration information provision flow management administrative assistants, 55 reception assistants – site management, 51 caseworkers, 46 reception assistants – case management and 37 registration assistants.27 In 2025, the number of lodged asylum applications registered with the support of EUAA personnel in Greece decreased to 34,023 applications for international protection (46,701 in 2024). Of these, 83% related to the same 10 citizenships, in particular Afghans (8,601), Egyptians (5,699), Sudanese (4,982), Syrians (1,843), Bangladeshis (1,837), Somalis (1,278), Nepalis (1,087), Eritreans (1,028), Pakistanis (954) and Yemenis (946).28 EUAA deployed personnel did not carry out TPD registrations in Greece in 2025. In 2025, the number of interviews carried out by EUAA caseworkers in Greece increased once more, with interviews in the asylum cases of 13,886 applicants compared to 11,973 in 2024.
