6 Methodology The first edition of this report was published in November 2021. This update therefore covers the period from December 2021-January 2023. Our findings in this report are drawn from three main sources: first-hand observations based on dozens of visits to the PRDC, a detailed analysis of individual detention orders and administrative files, and interviews conducted with asylum seekers detained in the Kos PRDC. Equal Rights carried out 10 structured interviews with detained asylum seekers, all of whom gave their consent prior to being interviewed and were given the opportunity to withdraw their consent at any time prior to the report’s publication. Equal Rights interviewed all 10 of the participants using the same script that covered the following topics: arrival in Greece, events upon detention, detention conditions, provision of information, and post-detention experiences (where applicable). Interviews were either conducted in the interviewee’s native language or carried out with the assistance of an interpreter. During one interview, two participants were interviewed together as they were related and one of them was a minor. Our participant pool consisted of individuals of five nationalities. All clients interviewed were male as women and children were not detained in the Kos PRDC during the reporting period. Their personal information has been anonymised to protect their identities, and no interviewee received payment or services in exchange for their participation in these interviews. Interviews were carried out with people who were detained during the period of May 2022 to November 2022, therefore updates regarding the living conditions that are based on first-hand interviews are limited to this period.
