The respondent reported that following the unexplained death of a detainee, detainees in all six sections of the Paranesti PRDC initiated a hunger strike.

In response, the riot police (MAT/YAT) used gas and excessive force to suppress the protest, locking detainees in their rooms and violently beating them with sticks, including the respondent.
