- Narrative
The respondent is 34 years old and is from Egypt. He was arrested and detained in Amygdaleza PRDC for 10 days. He paid a private lawyer to help him with his case but he stopped responding to him and did not do anything to help. Similar to other testimonies in Amygdaleza PRDC, the respondent claimed that upon arrival they were offered soap and a toothbrush but nothing after that. He described the cells and toilets as very dirty. The food was also not enough. His requests to see a doctor were consistently ignored and he further described that access to healthcare for others was very limited too. People are allowed to go outside but there is nothing to do so there is listlessness among the detainees. As a result, he claims there are a lot of conflicts between detainees, which also causes tension between them and the police. People who are allegedly ‘troublemakers’ are taken by the detention authorities, taken to another room and beaten up.
