Several people detained in the Hellenic Coast Guard security building in Heraklion reported being subjected to or witnessing beatings during a prayer by "two men wearing military uniforms" with covered faces. One respondent reported: "They entered the room. Four people were praying, they were muslims. They attacked us and beat us with black sticks. They stopped us from praying.” According to another respondent, the two men used "wooden or plastic sticks [...]. Lots of people were bleeding." Minors were reportedly also affected: "We tried to move the kids to the middle so they wouldn’t be targeted, to protect them, but they got beaten up anyway. I was personally targeted and got a lot of bruises.” The respondent added that the aggressors were shouting in Greek so no one could understand what was said. Finally, one respondent reported that an officer told the affected group, after the incident, not to repeat what happened outside of the facility. He reported those words: "don't tell anyone, we do not want anyone from outside to know".
