-89. The above-mentioned immediate observation was subsequently confirmed in a letter of 10 November 1999 from the President of the CPT. The Greek authorities were requested to provide within three months a report on the action taken to meet the requirements set out in points i) to vi) above and, more generally, an account of their strategy for putting an end to the holding in police stations for prolonged periods of foreign nationals awaiting deportation. By letter of 1 February 2000, the Greek authorities informed the CPT of the measures taken in response to the immediate observation. These measures will be considered in detail later in the report.
