so by subtly adopting extremist political views regarding a concern raised in the irst place by the ultra-right, in the manner the ultra-right had intended; at the same time satisfying a major part of the governing majority. It is no accident, ater all, that the president of the Council of State recently appointed by the government was previously the judge-rapporteur for the majority opinion in the Fourth Chamber’s decision. A temporary conclusion: It would be unfair to say all judges are under the sway of racist xenophobia, racialism or nationalism. In critical decisions that pose existential issues for all of us, as is the case with citizenship, the Greek judiciary has been divided, and the minorities have always been vigorous. The devaluation of established institutions, including the judiciary, is a contracted mission of the ultra-right, whether “constitutional” or not. Our task is to reinforce and support these institutions. To do so, one of our indispensable tools is critical relection on judicial decisions. Bibliography* ◗◗ E.
